Wauters x Charlotte Tilbury: magic and technique
This British makeup artist needs no introduction. She showcases her talent everywhere from the catwalks of the maddest fashion Houses to the most sophisticated magazine covers.
Skincare, makeup, fragrance… Her utterly feminine brand knows no bounds.
Today, Charlotte Tilbury is launching intimate new ways to awaken the senses and stir up emotions.
How do you want to feel today?
Joyphoria, Love Frequency, Magic Energy… Her newest fragrance range is an invitation to choose and reveal your mood through its superpowers.
The 6 evocatively-named new fragrances are made of “emotion-boosting” molecules created in collaboration with a scientist and based on neuroscience.
There’s something magical about this new range, and the packaging designed by Wauters only adds to its spellbinding appeal.
An audacious design
These 6 “magical” new fragrances warranted some explanation of their virtues. In a nod to the magic theme, the box resembles a spellbook that reveals the fragrance’s secret powers on the inside of its ‘front cover.’ Opposite this flap is a window into each colourful, inspiring bottle.
The box’s adjusted size is tailored to the entire, multifaceted range.
Finishing touches
Inspired by the charm of Tarot cards, the packaging’s graphic design casts a bewitching spell. Every talkative box, which boasts its own power, colour, and lucky number, was crafted using a combination of Wauters’ oldest finishing techniques and its most recent technological prowess. Let’s explain how we worked our magic…
First came the cardboard:
Astropremium FSC – a refined, non-coated cardboard with an appealing texture – was selected for the task.
Next came printing:
Every fragrance has its own deep colour, showcased in all-over, front-and-back print: turquoise green for Calm Bliss, soft pink for Love Frequency, forest green for Magic Energy… And a full metallic effect for Joyphoria.
Every box is then hot-stamped with copper gold or holographic finishing details.
Wauters hot marking: EPV-certified expertise
For over a century, gilding has been our House’s foremost area of expertise. At the time, the very first Wauters workshop, located in the Marais district in Paris, mostly used gilding on leather (book covers, desk pads, etc.). Our expertise broadened to include labels, then evolved towards luxury packaging in the late 1960s, taking advantage of the House’s move to the graphic arts industrial area of Villebon-sur-Yvette.
Whether on flats, in fine lines or in cylinders, hot marking is one of our two areas of expertise (the other being embossing) that were awarded and highlighted with the EPV label (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant) in 2022. A sign of the State’s recognition, this label is given to French companies showing exceptional skill in their industry and craft.
Hot marking is a delicate step in the manufacturing process that requires a high level of technique in machinery calibration and production. We commit to passing on this expertise, which takes many years of experience to master, to new recruits. Nowadays, our expertise in hot marking is complemented by our know-how in cold marking.
Our sincerest thanks to the Puig teams for their trust.
