Legendary Christmas – diptyque
What would our holiday season news be without diptyque! This year, once again, we would like to tell you about our latest festive work with this fabulous house.
This time round, artist Pierre Marie has put his unbounded and captivating imagination into the design of three high-spirited scented candles: a Bear for Exquisite Almond, a Mermaid for Amber Balm and a Deer for Pine Tree of Light.
This strange, enchanting universe underpins the magic of the packaging.
diptyque gave us another opportunity to recount a story of colours, sparkle, matter and gold decoration.
Receiving a brief from diptyque takes us back to the very source of our profession.
Colours, finesse and materials blend in alchemy, but the technical equation must appear to disappear! Creative virtuosity must come into play.
The quest for packaging alchemy
It all starts with incredible colour research.
And no less than 14 direct shades combine in this 2018 collection.
Our colourist, Lionel, works on pantone colours and models to create a first colour triptych (the famous minis, standards and maxis that are a headache for the design teams but vital for subsequent production).
To say that success comes naturally to him would not do justice to his perseverance… Despite a brilliant performance, for certain colours, he submitted no less than three triptychs…
Then comes the gilding, this time multi-coloured…
Four films carefully selected for their perfect tint, each one for a particular edition. The eye calls the tune, but the quality of release is our nightmare, particularly as uncoated paper, Delos to be precise, is a favourite with the house.
The design fully comes to life on its grained surface. Solid gilding and strokes take on their full beauty in the gap adjusted with light black outlines.
We worked on our trapping, fine-tuning the tools, temperature, speed and pressure of application of our unique machine to achieve flawless elegance and adhesion.
And as always, the register plays the grand finale.
Everything must be registered with exacting precision and through the subtle pairing of printing and hot stamping, the decoration comes to life.
